“Can Designers Save the World?”

I would like to focus my GCOM 563.2 essay on the question “Can Designers Save the World?” More specifically this essay will be about whether or not designers have the power to change the world for the human race as one, rather than to benefit one person or group of people for the sake of capitalist gain. In an era driven by capitalism, can designers fix problems selflessly for the sake of humanity and not for the sake of a massive pay check and a pat on the back?
